I graduated from Fayetteville State University in 2003, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Education. I continued my education at Columbia College in 2005 where I earned a Master of Education in Divergent Learning. In 2016, I earned a Master of Arts in History at Texas Tech University. I earned my Master of Education in Educational Leadership in 2022 at The Citadel.
I began my teaching career at the Academic Learning Center in Sumter, SC. I have taught at Mayewood Middle School in Sumter, SC, Tilden Middle School in Rockville, MD, Benton Middle School in Benton, LA, Cane Bay Middle School in Summerville, SC, Smylie Wilson Middle School and OL Slaton in Lubbock, TX, Early College High School and Deer Park Middle in Charleston, SC. I was a military wife, so moving to different schools have given me the opportunity to experience different classroom settings. In 2024, I became the Secondary Coordinator for Dorchester 4.
I have two kids- ages 21 and 25. One of the biggest commitments in my life is being a Christian. As you read my book, I mention what inspired me to become a teacher, what I experienced as a teacher, and how I wanted to leave the profession. During my fourth year of teaching, I realized that leaving the profession was going against God's plan for my life. I truly believe that we all have a plan and a purpose.
